How are preorders handled?
We offer some items to be purchased on a preorder basis. This means we do not currently have this item in stock at our warehouse but once you order, we notify our manufacturer and they then produce the item. Although this does require some waiting on your end, it eliminates unnecessary waste and cuts down on our carbon footprint. And best of all - everyone gets a chance to order and does not miss out instead of us underestimating how much inventory to keep in stock and then selling out of our popular items. We do our best to fulfill your preorders as quickly as possible. We do not want to keep you waiting! If you have preorder items and in-stock items in your order, they will be shipped out together. If you want to receive your in-stock items sooner, we recommend placing separate orders - one order with in-stock items and one with preorder items.

Is your jewelry hypoallergenic?
"Hypoallergenic" is a term used to describe jewelry that is made of metals that are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction for those with sensitive skin. Because this isn't a regulated term and every one has different allergies, we do not label our jewelry as such. Each product description includes the materials used in the piece so you are informed and can determine if it is suitable to wear on your skin. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions on a particular piece and we can provide general guidance as it pertains to its materials.

Is your jewelry waterproof?
While this is a catchy claim made by many, it is more practical to consider what metals are more water-resistant or less likely to tarnish. The truth is you need to take care of your jewelry; some metals/alloys can withstand more "wear and tear" than others. We recommend removing your jewelry when you shower or swim and be careful with lotions, perfumes, etc. You will want to take extra care with gold plated and gold vermeil pieces, as these are more delicate. Solid gold, gold filled, and stainless steel pieces are tougher. Sterling silver can tarnish over time but you can polish it.
Gold Plated, Gold Vermeil, Gold Filled - What's the difference?
When shopping for gold jewelry, it may be confusing to understand all of the options to choose from. Oh My Melly wishes to be transparent about the quality of metal your jewelry is made of. We want you to be educated on what you are purchasing and have realistic expectations on the quality, durability and how you can wear your piece(s).

Gold Plated is a base metal dipped into less than 1% gold.
Gold Vermeil (pronounced "ver-may") is sterling silver that is dipped into a slightly thicker layer of gold.
Gold Filled is a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal. Law requires the piece to be 5% gold. The thick layer of gold should be a quality of 12 karats or higher.

What is sterling silver?
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver mixed with 7.5% other metals (usually copper). Because pure silver is relatively soft, mixing it with copper increases its strength. It is a great, high-quality choice for jewelry.
